✤Materials For Class: (Expected in class everyday!) A $10.00 fee per student will cover the purchase of the class novel for second semester. 1. CHARGED Chromebook 2. Folder with pockets and braids in the center 3. Loose-leaf paper 4. Pen/pencil 5. Highlighters, colored pencils, and sticky notes are highly recommended
✤Rules For Class: School-wide rules can be found in Student Handbook. 1. Be here and be on time. 2. Be prepared for class. 3. Be respectful in class. 4. Be in your seat and on task. 5. Be tidy and neat.
✤Frequently Challenged Rules: 1. Students should be in compliance with dress code or he/she will be sent to the office. 2. No cell phone usage in class unless permitted by teacher. A cell phone holding area is located in the back of the room, and students are expected to check in their phones at the beginning of class everyday. The phone will be confiscated if the rules are broken. 3. A tardy to class will result in a hall sweep and a detention. 4. Anyone choosing to sleep in class will be sent to ISAP and will fail if it persists. 5. Any work that was due on a day that the student was absent is due upon his/her return. 6. Make-up work is due in the amount of days missed plus one. 7. No food or drink in class per the Bullitt East school-wide rules.
✤Course Content and Grading:
The purpose of this class is to enable students to master the 11-12 Kentucky Core Content Standards.
Grades are earned as follows: A 90-100 Advanced
B 80-89 Proficient C 70-79 Approaching D 60-69 Beginning F 1-59 Failing
✤Guidelines for Class: 1.Work should be turned in ON TIME! I will NOT accept late classwork. UNEXCUSED absence work will only receive 60% credit. 2.YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MAKE-UP WORK! You must check google classroom, my website, and a classmate in order to find out what you missed. 3. Some large writing assignments and projects will be accepted late, but the score will be deducted 10% for each day late. They will NOT be accepted after 2 weeks. 4. All tests and quizzes are to be made up before or after school, NOT during class. 5. Restroom breaks during class are really unacceptable. In the case of an emergency, students will be allowed to leave unless a student abuses this privilege.

Grammar: *Editing Sentence of the Day (SOD) and Notes of the Day (NOD) *Specific Focus Units on NoRedInk *Frequent pretests, quizzes, and tests 3. Vocabulary: *Vocabulary through literature using vocab.com *Vocabulary will be assessed on quizzes and literature tests 4. Literature: *British Literature (i. e. Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, Macbeth) *Novel Possibilities: Brave New World, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, 1984) *Technical Reading (i.e. newspaper articles, textbook chapters, letters) *Various Short Stories 5. Speaking: *Presentations and/or Projects *Discussions/Socratic Seminars/Fishbowls *Speeches 6. Technology: *Chromebooks will be used consistently throughout the year *Students will submit papers for revision and editing through Googledocs *Various apps will be used for instructional and practice activities
